If you are looking for another radio, you don’t have to get a new one because chances are nothing is wrong with it. All you need to do is replace the antennas attached to your radio.

If your radio goes in and out and, you can miss important information that is on the radio and you won’t be able to hear it again — unless you’re listening to a radio station that likes to play things on repeat.

DIY FM Antenna

If you do not want to buy an FM antenna and you think creating one yourself would be a better use of your time, then you’re in luck! Making your own antenna is not that hard and you can make it out of a speaker wire. This can be useful because you can use speaker wire to extend the range to improve the quality of your connection.

Here’s how to create an FM antenna:

Step 1:

If you have a speaker wire, make sure to split three feet of the speaker wire. For this, you would need ten feet of speaker wire. This will leave you with three feet of split wire and seven inches of untouched speaker wire. If you don’t have a speaker wire, you can always purchase one.

Step 2:

Form a “T” shape with the speaker wire. The way you would do this is by taking the three feet of wire and bending it in a 90 degree angle to the seven-foot wire.

Step 3

Take a wire stripper and cut the bottom installation of the speaker wire. This will then expose the wire at the bottom of the “T” shape.

Step 4

Find the antenna connection on your receiver. For it to be easily identifiable, it may be labeled “ant.ext” or  “fm.ext.”

Step 5

With the shape that you’ve made with the speaker wire, connect the bottom of the “T” shape with the receiver. These will be the wires that are exposed that will need to be connected to each of the FM connections.

Step 6

Now, place your antenna as close to the nearest station possible.

While you can use speaker wire to create your own FM antenna, you can also use coaxial cable.

The only difference when you’re creating an FM antenna with a coaxial cable is that you will need to leave one end of the coaxial cable intact if you want it to be the connector.

Where You Can Get an FM Antenna

You can get an FM antenna anywhere online, preferably Amazon or even Bestbuy! You can also make one yourself if you are feeling like doing it yourself at some point.

Choosing an FM antenna requires you to know what it should do and what works best for you. Think of how much time you think is acceptable to install an antenna.

If you can’t do it on your own, then is it a great antenna for you to get? Think of the quality and how much you are spending on an antenna. Sometimes the most expensive things are not good for you and don’t fit your needs, while the ones that do not put a dent in your wallet can be the most beneficial to you!
